if nothing here sounds appealing.

A Course in Miracles
by Foundation of Inner Peace, Foundation for Inner Peace
Amazon.com Description of book:
When Helen Schucman, a professor of medical psychology at Columbia University, began hearing an inner voice of rapid dictation (which she eventually identified as the voice of Jesus), she decided to start taking shorthand notes. Then, with the support and encouragement of a colleague, Schucman continued to assemble the teachings that came to her. The result is A Course in Miracles, a book that has spawned hundreds of study groups and an international following. Although some may find the teachings simplistic ("To heal is to make happy"), many are struck by the predominately compassionate and eloquent passages of this Christian-based interpretation of the Bible ("Whenever you deny a blessing to a brother you will feel deprived, because denial is as total as love"). Indeed, many of the teachings carry weight and certainly merit the acclaim and attention that this book has generated. --Gail Hudson--This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

The American Indian: Secrets of Crystal Healing
by Luc Bourgault
Amazon Editorial Reviews
Book Description:
The teachings of the Apache and Cherokee tribes in particular have come down through the generations by word of mouth. This is the first written document to carry their secrets to the tribes of the world. Concerned about malpractice in the application of crystals these au thentic practitioners of crystal therapy believe that much of the information in circulation today is incorrect-and perhaps even harmful to both the receiver of the treatment and to the crystals themselves. Placing Crystals on Chakra centers is particularly dangerous when several are used at the same time. It is the aim of this book to explain the work which we do with our brothers and sisters the Crystals. Readers will learn about the properties of stones the properties of colors and the electromagnetic fields of the body. Chapters include Purification & Care of Crystals the Different Ways of Working the Three Laws of Healing How to Prepare the Essences and the therapeutic Touch & Exercises.

Autobiography of a Yogi
by P. Yogananda
"The yogi begins by showing how his childhood experiences in turn-of-the-century India produced a spiritual youth in search of an enlightened teacher, continues with an account of his years of training in the hermitage of a revered master, and concludes with the highlights of a period, beginning in 1920, during which he lived and taught in America. Yogananda sensitively interprets not only his own spiritual evolution but also his relationship with elements of the West's spiritual tradition, such as the story of Adam and Eve, providing a penetrating look at the ultimate mysteries of human existence. Bibliographical footnotes, which would have interrupted Kingsley's magnificent narration, are thoughtfully included in an accompanying booklet. This extraordinary work will greatly enrich any library."

Black Elk Speaks: Being the Life Story of a Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux
by Black Elk, John Gneisenau Neihardt
Most people recognize Black Elk's name if not his legend. From the time he was a small child he had the ability to hear and follow Tankashilah. Elder's of the Lakota people saw it in him and knew he would follow the path. As a child he was raised knowing all the ways, traditions and cultures of the Lakota. He also experienced that life being torn apart: every battle, every torture, every mutilation. All that was Sacred; gone. The People; gone.
After traveling with Buffalo Bill, in Europe, he returned and worked to heal the Lakota. To repair the Sacred Hoop, heal The Tree of Life, these were his goals. He never felt that he suceeded.
In the end, Black Elk dictated this book with the help of relatives who translated, the author, and members of his family. It was Black Elk's last and perhaps greatest gift to the extented family, All The People: The Red, The Yellow, The Black, The White.
If you want to understand the traditions this is a starting point. A must have. It's well written, clear and profound. And, if you've read it well, don't be suprised if it should prove life changing.

Chart Interpretation Handbook: Guidelines for Understanding

by Stephen Arroyo, Jerilynn Marshall
I find this book, like all his books, superb. I have studied astrology for over 30 years and still go back and back again to Stephen Arroyo's books. Children of the Light: The Startling and Inspiring Truth About Children's Near-Death Experiences and How They Illumine the Beyond
by Brad Steiger
A fascinating look into near-death experiences in children that will make you hopeful about what awaits us in the next life, and will get you thinking more about how you live in this life. As you can guess, the book raises more questions than it is able to answer. But rather than try to force an explanation the author accepts this and leaves room for each of us to draw some of our own conclusions. It's an easy, thought-provoking read that dares to go against some of the cold, scientific cynicism so common in our society today.

The Disappearance of the Universe: Straight Talk About Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the Miracles of Forgiveness
by Gary R. Renard
KATH'S NOTE:  REALLY HEAVY DUTY,  so it's not for anyone who doesn't know a little bit about quantum physics already.......it's mind-boggeling and wonderful!"

What would you do if you were sitting quietly in your living room when a mysterious couple appeared from out of nowhere—and then told you they were "ascended masters" who had come to reveal some shocking secrets of existence and teach you the miraculous powers of advanced forgiveness? When two such teachers appeared before Gary Renard in 1992, he chose to listen to them (and ask a lot of impertinent questions). The result is this startling book: an extraordinary record of 17 mind-bending conversations that took place over nearly a decade, reorienting the author’s life and giving the world an uncompromising introduction to a spiritual teaching destined to change human history.

Emerson's Essays
by Ralph Waldo Emerson
This book has essays that empowers you, sort of like Anthony robbins, but in a much more stronger way, because its not based on 'practical habits', or 'positive thinking', but an exploration on the incredibleness of the human soul, that are more than just thought provoking...They are inspiring, not in just an example-giving kind of way, or "you could be like this" sort of way... It is simply truth, as one man saw fit, in a most honest, clear, and literate way. Even Nietszche was in total awe of everything Emerson wrote, saying emerson's soul was basically something in the heavens.

Yes, transcendentalism is the label to his philosophies, but Emerson doesn't really write "philosophies", he simply writes (with mathmatical like precision), his ideas about man, that start without any prior knowledge or terms necessary to read it.. It is as clean and laser-like in his explanations, and it has the strength of a mathematical proof, and has the heart and sincerity that truly makes the soul of the reader come alive, even soar at times.

Encyclopedia of Ancient and Forbidden Knowledge
by F. Zolar
This is a fine book which carefully and succinctly covers a wide spectrum of occult interests in two sections. The first gives a thorough treatment of the Kaballah, Mediumship, the astral world, sex matters, the soul, mind power and issues related mortality and immortality. The second section contends with issues of divination, including a primer on astrology, tarot, numerology, winning methods and other psychic science, amongst others. There is a lot of detailed knowledge in this 394 page book and the treatment is detailed yet concise. A good read, and a must for any occult libary.

The Highly Sensitive Person
by Elaine Aron
Editorial Reviews /Amazon.com
Are you an HSP? (Highly Sensitive Person) Are you easily overwhelmed by stimuli? Affected by other people's moods? Easily startled? Do you need to withdraw during busy times to a private, quiet place? Do you get nervous or shaky if someone is observing you or competing with you? HSP, shorthand for "highly sensitive person," describes 15 to 20 percent of the population. Being sensitive is a normal trait--nothing defective about it. But you may not realize that, because society rewards the outgoing personality and treats shyness and sensitivity as something to be overcome. According to author Elaine Aron (herself an HSP), sensitive people have the unusual ability to sense subtleties, spot or avoid errors, concentrate deeply, and delve deeply. This book helps HSPs to understand themselves and their sensitive trait and its impact on personal history, career, relationships, and inner life. The book offers advice for typical problems. For example, you learn strategies for coping with overarousal, overcoming social discomfort, being in love relationships, managing job challenges, and much more. The author covers a lot of material clearly, in an approachable style, using case studies, self-tests, and exercises to bring the information home. The book is essential for you if you are an HSP--you'll learn a lot about yourself. It's also useful for people in a relationship with an HSP. --Joan Price

KATH'S NOTE:  This book is great for empaths and other sensitive souls.  I enjoyed it a lot. There are also several books out on Empaths, but I haven't read them yet.  You might want to check them out on my Amazon link, above.

Illusions : The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah
by RICHARD BACH
From the Inside Flap
In the cloud-washed airspace between the cornfields of Illinois and blue infinity, a man puts his faith in the propeller of his biplane. For disillusioned writer and itinerant barnstormer Richard Bach, belief is as real as a full tank of gas and sparks firing in the cylinders...until he meets Donald Shimoda--former mechanic and self-described messiah who can make wrenches fly and Richard's imagination soar....

In Illusions, the unforgettable follow-up to his phenomenal bestseller Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Richard Bach takes to the air to discover the ageless truths that give our souls wings: that people don't need airplanes to soar...that even the darkest clouds have meaning once we lift ourselves above them... and that messiahs can be found in the unlikeliest places--like hay fields, one-traffic-light midwestern towns, and most of all, deep within ourselves.

The Jesus Mystery
by Janice Bock
The author does an excellent job in discussing the "Lost Years" in the life of Jesus, which include the years 12-30, and are not discussed in the New Testament (the Bible makes reference to Jesus only as a youth, and then as an adult). The Book discusses why Jesus, as a youth, left his home to migrate eastward to learn about the Vedic teachings which were present in India, Nepal and Tibet, and then later spread those teachings which he learned there to the West. Although this book may present an extreme controversy for an Occidental, the Author truly conveys her deep love and respect for Lord Jesus Christ. After reading this book, one should go back and read the Sermon on the Mount, and then you can truly see the uniformity (rather than the separation) between Chistianity and Hinduism. Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives
by Michael Newton
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Journey of Souls is a controversial yet inspiring investigation of the big question we all face at one point or another: "What happens after we die?" To find the answer, Newton opens cases from his private practice in which he hypnotically regressed his clients to a point between lives--after death, but before birth. Not only does Newton grapple with reincarnation, the spirit world, and the nature of the human soul, he also tackles equally sticky questions such as "Is there a Heaven and Hell?" and "What are ghosts?" Readers with a penchant for skepticism will balk at the lack of physical evidence to back up the claims in Journey of Souls, but the book remains a reassuring voice, affirming that our existence is not limited to the boundaries of our mortal flesh. --Brian Patterson

The Little Soul and the Sun: A Children's Parable Adapted from
Conversations With God

by Neale Donald Walsch
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Neale Donald Walsch's Conversations with God series has enjoyed boundless success, making his dialogue with God accessible to a worldwide audience of adults. The Little Soul and the Sun distills the essential message of the Conversations with God books and sews it into a story that even children can identify with. Frank Riccio's poignant illustrations are the perfect companion to Walsch's parable of a little soul who discovers that it is "the light" but still wants to know how it "feels" to be the light. This proves to be a problem, as God created nothing else but the light. God's solution, with the help of another soul, is to surround the little soul with darkness, so that it can feel what being the light is like. This deceptively simple tale of self-discovery carries such a profound message that adults as well as children will read it over and over, each time learning a little more about who we really are and why we are here on earth. --Brian Patterson

KATH'S NOTE: I absolutely loved this book and not only bought a copy for myself, but one for
my daughter to read to my grandson.  It's not just for kids.  It's a simple way for adults to
understand a complicated subject.

The Nag Hammadi Library in English : Revised Edition
by James M. Robinson
Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The Nag Hammadi Library was discovered in 1945 buried in a large stone jar in the desert outside the modern Egyptian city of Nag Hammadi. It is a collection of religious and philosophic texts gathered and translated into Coptic by fourth-century Gnostic Christians and translated into English by dozens of highly reputable experts. First published in 1978, this is the revised 1988 edition supported by illuminating introductions to each document. The library itself is a diverse collection of texts that the Gnostics considered to be related to their heretical philosophy in some way. There are 45 separate titles, including a Coptic translation from the Greek of two well-known works: the Gospel of Thomas, attributed to Jesus' brother Judas, and Plato's Republic. The word gnosis is defined as "the immediate knowledge of spiritual truth." This doomed radical sect believed in being here now--withdrawing from the contamination of society and materiality--and that heaven is an internal state, not some place above the clouds. That this collection has resurfaced at this historical juncture is more than likely no coincidence. --P. Randall Cohan

The Secret Teachings of Jesus : Four Gnostic Gospels
by MARVIN MEYER
In December 1945, two Egyptian fellahin, digging for natural fertilizer in the Nile River valley unearthed a sealed storage jar. The jar proved to hold treasure of an unexpected sort: a collection of some fifty-two ancient manuscripts, most of which reflect the teachings of a mystical religious movement we call Gnosticism (from the Greek word gnosis, "knowledge"). The texts are also, with few exceptions, Christian documents, and thus they provide us with valuable new information about the character of the early church, and about the Gnostic Christians within the church.
In this volume, Marvin W. Meyer has produced a new English translation for general readers of four of the most important and revealing of these early Christian texts -- the Secret Book of James, the Gospel of Thomas, the Book of Thong, and the Secret Book of John.

The Soul of Your Pet: Evidence for the Survival of Animals After Death
by Scott S. Smith
This book should be read at all stages for pet owners: before you adopt your friend or "baby", while it is young and healthy, and when it is getting older. There is so much in it to show clear evidence that animals will be on the other side forever just as we will. So many people are afraid to read anything about this subject before they've lost their dear companion. This is a mistake. This isn't a book about grief counseling, to be avoided because of fear of facing the inevitable. but rather shows a wonder of hope (and evidence) of the afterexistence of animals whether dogs, cats, horses, birds-- any pet. Read it, tell your friends about it! They love their pets too! The topic is beautifully presented, with such cheering true stories of people's seeing their beloved pets after they have passed to the other side. But strangers see them too, at times. Some incidents depicted tell of everyone but the owner seeing the "ghost" pet. Sometimes there are several visits. They are either seen, heard, felt or combinations of these phenomena. This book can save a lot of people a ton of grief--the thought that they are forever parted from their pets because of erroneous teaching of some churches and general skepticism. Of course we miss our companions, but knowing that they still exist-- and are waiting for us can make all the difference in the world!  (An Amazon Reviewer)

Spirit Song: The Introduction of No-Eyes
by Mary Summer Rain
No Eyes, a blind Chippewa visionary living in a remote Colorado area and Many Heart, a dreamwalker, are the teachers in this profound journey through the spirit world for Summer Rain. In the Ancient oral tradition they guide the novice along the true path to understanding of who she is and her place in the continuing life of their people. This is a wonderful look at the way knowledge has been passed from generation to generation with strong emphasis on what is good and what might trick the spirituality-seeking novice into taking a wrong path. Positive life is strengthened by the knowledge of the shaman, natural medicine, awareness of Mother Earth and the putting aside the unnecessary quest for things that don't matter, in order to enrich your soul.

Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death
by James Van Praagh
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
As in the case of James Redfield's The Celestine Prophecy, once in a while a book comes along that unexpectedly soars to the bestseller lists simply because it feeds a specific spiritual hunger. Talking to Heaven is one such book. Based on the personal insights and memories of highly acclaimed medium James Van Praagh, Talking to Heaven offers comforting and startling stories about his contact with the deceased. Van Praagh could have used this text to prove that his gifts as a medium are authentic--the story about the deceased teenager who led his parents to his murderer is impressive (the result was a murder conviction)--but instead, Van Praagh offers spiritual and psychological comfort to those grappling with the loss of a loved one. He also helps readers develop their own means of talking to heaven. Even those who aren't aching for contact with the deceased will find Van Praagh's down-to-earth discussions of karma, the afterlife, and spiritual guides fascinating.
